Currently, I am running 1.6 but I want to upgrade to Asterisk 11. Is it better to upgrade 1.6 to 1.8 and then to 11 or would it require the same or close to the same effort to upgrade to 11 from 1.6?
Is there documentation that shows what has changed between 1.6, 1.8 and 11?

No, there’s not one that gives everything from 1.6 to 11, you have to read each of the interim ones to get from one version to the next - I linked to the online ones out of SVN, if you look at your 11 tarball you’ll see the UPGRADE-x.txt files there, too. It wouldn’t be very efficient to maintain one exclusively for 1.6.x to 11.
