Slow ring and slow hang up

#1

hi…

newbie with asterisk so please bear with me if i dont provide good info.
AAH 2.5
digium TDM01B card (1 FXO port)
2 softphones (x-lite)
2 sipura spa-941

couple of issues

incoming pstn calls are answered by the server straight away, but take about 5 seconds before the phone rings. listening as the incoming caller i hear a ring, then it is answered at the server. Then there is silence for 5 secs, then can hear the sipura ring.
is there a setting to speed this up

putting the phone down on call from pstn doesn’t seem to end the call, the line still seems active at the server, basically it’s not ending the call

any help would be grately appreciated and if config files are required let me know

thanks

What do you have for signalling in /etc/zaptel.conf?

From my experience the timing issues are related to signalling, as it seems to be both on call reception and termination. The configuration must match what the provider is offering. This can vary by country on puvlic pstn, and by equipment handling the signal in between asterisk and the pstn.

Your extensions.conf can also contain Wait(x) on the incoming channel that would certainly add delays.

If you call sipura to sipura is there any delay? This could be network related, also.

Start asterisk with a -vvv to monitor the sytem’s handling of the call.

Snippets of your zapata, zaptel, and extensions.conf as well as any network peculiarities between asterisk and sip-phone.

Strangely i found i have the same problem.
When i have a super simple dial plan like:

[from-ISDN]
exten => _X.,1,NoOp(${DNID})
exten => _X.,n,Answer()
exten => _X.,n,SayDigits("5")
exten => _X.,n,Hangup

exten => h,1,NoOp("hanging up")
exten => h,n,Hangup

then pickup will take around 3 whole seconds. That is the time between the first sign of life in asterisk:
– Accepting overlap call from ‘987654321’ to ‘0123456789’ on channel 0/21, span 1
– Starting simple switch on 'Zap/21-1’
untill it starts processing the dialplan:
– Executing NoOp(“Zap/21-1”, “0123456789”) in new stack

But if i change the dialplan to NOT include pattern matching:

[from-ISDN]
exten => 0123456789,1,NoOp(${DNID})
exten => 0123456789,n,Answer()
exten => 0123456789,n,SayDigits("5")
exten => 0123456789,n,Hangup

exten => h,1,NoOp("hanging up")
exten => h,n,Hangup

so just replacing the _X. with a hardcoded number,
then it is blazingly fast.
Now ofcourse with several primary isdn lines on the machine that is quite unacceptable, a delay of 3 seconds before hearing anything, especialy as i can not find why this is happening, so i guess i am cursed to write some (explicit) workaround in the dialplan…

Meanwhile here is some brain-food:
Is this a problem in the regexp engine?
If so, why does it not occur on our super slow testbox running asterisk@home, but is the super-fast production server picking its nose for 3 seconds?
Is there a way to find out what is actualy happening in those 3 seconds?

thanks.

signalling is set to fxs_ks (i’m in the UK if that has a bearing)

below is copy of extensions.conf

there is no delay anywhere else apart from incoming pstn calls

#5

I found a solution today.
If i change “_X.” into “_X!” in the dialplan everything will be handeled immediately.

#6

i would go through your [from-pstn-xxx] stuff and get rid of the waits you don’t need … unless you want to wait for CID (which we don’t in the UK) and are wanting to use fax reception.

there’s quite a few tweaks to use A@H in the UK, the dialplan just being one of them. there’s the loading of wctdm, indications.conf, timezone setups, language settings in various files etc etc.

they’ve all been documented and can be found with a google, if you get stuck PM me :smiley:
