Newb Upgrade Question

Just wondering how to upgrade from 1.8 to 11?

  1. Do I just download the new source and recompile?
  2. Is there and update style procedure?
  3. Is there a procedure to clear 1.8 before I install 11?
  4. None of the above?

P.S. Ubuntu 12.04 server if that matters.

1a) Read all the relevant files with UPGRADE in their name and adjust the configuration files accordingly.
