Asterisk SS7, E1 - hardware

We are trying to develop a project that’ll use for IVR and 'll have asterisk software.

What do we need as a hardware to use asterisk?

Can we use SS7 and E1 both?

Thanks for your any help and suggestions…

What is your distinction between SS7 and an E1 in this case? Or do you simply mean an E1 using SS7 signaling?

As for hardware for interconnection for an E1/EuroISDN the Digium Wildcard TE411P (just pay attention to what voltage you need) will support up to 4 E1s.

What E1 interconnectivity does your GSM Operator provide?

Thanks for your answer we need to use E1 using SS7 signaling since trunks from gsm operator is using ss7 protocol. We need max. of 240 trunk. One E1 can 30 trunk, so we need 8E1 channel. If there is a need for SS7 signal converting, if you could give hardware names or links It’ll be great.

Basicly, We need to setup an ivr system, because we’ll provide some mobile services like sms (news, sports etc). Cell phone users will hear introduction part then using the menu system, the user will get that service.

For instance, after the introduction part, the user will hear press 1 for news, 2 for sports etc…

And I think we can do that with using Asterisk, but i have no clear idea for which hardware will be best for us.

I have not directly worked with SS7 and Asterisk to date. There is some information available here:

voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+SS7

That may be useful as there are ways to obtain interoperability.

If you need a strong Ss7 stack then you neet to take a look at this project. It works great and we have implemented it at 4 sites and works like a dream.

Ok, what do u suggest us in situation below.

We are developing applications and services for cell phones. For examples,
logos, ring-tones and etc.

We will also want to provide IVR services for cell-phones like chat
applications or competitions.

We need E1 that will includes 240 port (8X E1)
Users will call us with a cell phones and the user may requesting logo or
etc. using voice menus. or join competitions and etc.

Also We are thinking to add VOIP, SIP Phones.

That sounds like an interesting and viable option.

You may also be interested in offering SMS services as well as you may as well get every penny out of your investment in an Ss7 system.

Im not sure how you will be connecting to the GSM provider, E1 or 8xE1 would mean you need to 4port cards.

If you are looking at doing competitions you need to carefully plan for growth and design your system from day one to be able to grow with Zero downtime.

So you need to take all these considerations at hand. Possible engage a consultant to design a High Availability Asterisk System.
