I am currently setting up an Asterisk + FreePBX solution. I have a question regarding this topic, as I will be using the Ubuntu LTS (Noble) operating system. I was planning to compile the latest version of Asterisk 22.5.2 LTS and install FreePBX 17. We also intend to switch to the PJSIP driver. In addition, I am building a custom .deb package for latest Asterisk to make future updates easier to manage. However, Asterisk 20.6.0 is available in the official Ubuntu repository.
Which version of Asterisk is better to use, and why?

The more recent version is always a better choice, because it has a longer
support life.
Both of the above are fully supported until 2027-10-19 (v.22 for two years
more) so for now, either is a good choice.
If you compile from source, you’re responsible for doing that again when
you want to upgrade. If you install from package, you get automatic upgrades
when the package maintainer releases a new version. I’m not saying which of
those is better.
What do the FreePBX people say?
Antony.

Heisenberg, Gödel, and Chomsky walk in to a bar.
Heisenberg says, “Clearly this is a joke, but how can we work out if it’s
funny or not?”
Gödel replies, “We can’t know that because we’re inside the joke.”
Chomsky says, “Of course it’s funny. You’re just saying it wrong.”
