I just recently started using asterisk, and I intalled AsteriskNow, but I realized Asterisk version is 1.4.23.1. I would like to upgrade it to the latest stable 1.6.0.6. Can anyone tell me the steps to upgrading to a newer version?
I would like to have 1.6.0.6 running with asterisk-gui 2.
I appreciate all your help, and I tried searching for the steps but I did not find anything that I could follow.
Is the upgrade the same steps as this nerdvittles.com/?p=84 but for asterisk 1.6.0.6, zaptel-1.4.12.1, libpri-1.4.9, asterisk-addons-1.6.0 and asterisk-sounds-1.2.1?

Asterisk 1.6.* is NOT using Zaptel, but DAHDI.[/quote]
Right, so that website describes how to install it. Is that all I need to do? I don’t even need that I think cause I am only using SIP.

It’s correct that you don’t need DAHDI.
Why not do a new install of 1.6.x ?
Doesn’t take more then a few minutes.
Just keep your *.conf files in /etc/asterisk.

What do I have to do (steps) for a clean new install of asterisk since I already have 1.4.23.1 running?

Just install it over the old one (but don’t create samples docs as suggested at the end of the compilation, otherwise you will overwrite the existing config files)

Just how does one do that? Do I still boot from the CD? I’m running 1.4.18.1 and I would like to upgrade to the latest & greatest.
