TDM2400 question about echo cancellation

I notice Digium is releasing new cards with up to 24 ports FXO/FXS. My question is under what situation would you need echo cancellation on the board? If you don’t have hardware echo cancellation, can cancellation be done with the software? If not, why would anyone buy a board without it?

I’m trying to understand whether and why I’d need it. Great addition to the hardware lineup though – I must say.

zaptel supports several different software echo cancellers. In many situations hardware echo cancelling is not needed. My advice is to purchase the card, if you need the hardware echo can you can upgrade.
