Setting up asterisk 1.4.0 in RHEL ES 4 server

Hi ,

I newbie to asterisk. Any how i installed asterisk 1.4.0 RPM packages in RHEL ES 4 server .
I created user accounts using asterisk GUI. I can able to make call within internal environment . The same setup i configured my online server with static IP address using same packeages. But i cant able to signin using x-lite softphone. i’m getting "Registration error : 408 Request Timeout " error.

i read many documents, for configuring asterisk PBX no need for any addtional hardware.Am i correct?

we no need for any telephone phone numbers. we planning to making call PC to PC . Please help in this subject.

Is there a firewall in between them? If so you need to open up a bunch of ports (look in the wiki under NAT and SIP for tons of info).
