RasPBX - advanced SMS and MMS handling

A couple of years ago I wrote a guide how to setup RasPBX on RaspberryPi.

It is (was?) a nice project, but SMS and MMS messages handling was really poor.

So I decided to change that and here are the scripts for your RasPBX system, that will allow you to receive and send SMS messages in more friendly way and to receive the sender of the MMS message:

Script for sending SMS is also updated, I tried to pay attention to security (CSRF protection, security headers, validating inputs,…).

This system uses chan_dongle, which I know is not officially supported by Asterisk.

So I have one question for the community: since 2G networks are going to be shut off and since Huawei dongles are really hard to get, I am looking for alternative hardware, that supports 4G networks.

Can you recommend something, that is not really expensive? I found Quectel EC25 and Waveshare SIM7600G-H dongles, but did not try to use them. However there are some Github projects supporting that hardware, but they say it is very experimental support. But I am looking for something that is a little bit more reliable…

So your suggestions are welcome.

Howdy! Welcome to the Asterisk forums - glad to see your post over here - hope it gets some more traction than where it was on the FreePBX forums.
