I am trying to setup Asterisk for the 1st time… have had a play with some admin consoles and no joy…

I want to set it up and use it for 2 soft phones to be able to make internal calls…

Have the basic configs and xlite3 soft phone… just not being able to connect…

think the problem may be i do not understand how the user system works in asterisk and cannot find any decent answers in google … which means im looking for the wrong things…

i think i have to make my user account in sip.conf however not joy so far…

my asterisk pbx is running on a public IP address and I am trying to access it from home… any pointers??..

First I suggest you read the book “Asterisk: The Future of Telephony” you will find links to download it or you can purchase it.

Second, post your configs if you are having issues

Third, are you trying to connect to asterisk through the internet or just with the LAN? If through the internet and there is a firewall involved you will need to setup the firewall and asterisk to allow this to work. Search for SIP and NAT in the wiki for info.
