New to Asterisk, some PBX Experience with 3CX

Friends, I’m new to Asterisk, but have some PBX experience using, administering 3CX. Is the the 3CX product based on Asterisk?

Also, do you all recommend Asterisk for web-related functionality? I wish to use it for the following:

  • Sending a simple, one-way text message, from a website.
  • Joining two call legs into one call. A simple dialog box to enter a phone number, then to join that phone number with a pre-determined number.

Not publicly outside your LAN/VPN/intranet/etc., no. I think you should use a separate web server for that sort of internet-facing interface and store sanitized requests in a database and then let Asterisk work with the database to do things.
