Total newb qustion here. I promise I googled first. Anyway, I have a fresh install of Asterisk 1.8 on Centos. I installed via yum and it seemed to go well. However I am not sure how to enable channels. Previously I did this via menuselect.
Should I uninstall and reinstall from source?

Did you install everything?
yum install asterisk16 asterisk16-configs asterisk16-voicemail dahdi-linux
dahdi-tools libpri
Outbound channels will need to have dahdi install, but sure asterisk wouldn’t start is you didn’t
do core show channels to see if something is configured. Dahdi has a script built in that automaticly generates and configures the channels.

yum install asterisk18 asterisk18-configs
and
yum install dahdi-linux dahdi-tools libpri
Did you first installed dahdi and then installed asterisk?
That is the order you have to follow.

Only if you do a source install. A yum install is likely to be a binary one, in which case it is too late to run menuselect.
