Cisco 79x0 phones with Linksys SRW208MP POE switch

I’ve seen some posts pertaining to the use of Cisco 7940/7960 phones with POE. From what I gathered, these phones do not use the 802.3af standard and generally don’t work with newer POE switches. Well, my ever growing VoIP lab had become infested with “wall warts”. You know…those black AC to DC adapters. Plus, the additional power cables were making for a messy setup. So, I finally decided to purchase a POE switch. I got a Linksys (aka Cisco) SRW208MP. I plugged in my SNOM and Polycom phones and they powered right up. Just for kicks, I plugged in my Cisco 7940 fully expecting it not to work. To my suprise, it powered up just fine using a regular straight-through CAT-5 patch cable! Anyway, just thought I’d share this experience…
