AsteriskNOW - How Do I Add Service Provider
heres more step by step directions on obtaining root access.

reboot to the cd
use “linux rescue” when prompted for boot options
chroot /mnt/sysimage
passwd
reboot and have access to the system.
This would have been an easier way…

Login to the * box with the admin users credentials.

#sudo passwd root

Follow the password prompts.

Logout and log back in as root.

Does anyone know how to get into the linux shell of asterisknow? I have seen one poster wrote that you need to boot the iso into rescue mode. if its such a hassle to get into linux I am amaized why digium doesn’t just give you a shell option.

could I also say that its a waste of everyones time people arguing about guis and open source on these bb’s. its the technical info people want to read.

I have changed the root password and still can’t login to the console as root because it tells me that the account is not currently available.

I also can’t su from admin for the same reason and sudo anything tells me that there is a syntax error on line 29 of the sudoers file.

I can’t edit any of the config files from the shell as admin because they are all owned by root.

As a minor other comment - I am new to asterisk and have bought most of the available books but the people on this forum who are shouting down people who want a gui are not living in the real world imho.

If something like asterisk is to be accepted it needs to get into smaller businesses and people just don’t have the time to spend days learning how to configure a system just to see if they can make it work at all - people (non techies) want to be able to get stuff up and running quickly and see useful results if they are to be encouraged enough to learn more.

you’re entitled to your opinion, like everyone else.
