Asterisk with linux compatible modem and sound card

Hi there, from looking at the supported hardware for asterisk is states that you can use an ALSA compatible sound card. I want to run a VOIP system for one Analog telephone line. Is is posible using a voice enabled modem and a supported sound card to make a PBX VOIP system.

Thank you.

The modem won’t help you at all with VOIP.

You don’t really need a sound card in the computer to run asterisk on it - unless you’re going to use that system to make and receive calls. If you’re using a hardware VOIP phone or a software phone running on another computer, you don’t need a sound card in the asterisk server.
