Asterisk support for analog phones

Hi

I have installed asterisk recently and configured it with softphones and gtalk which worked greatly. Now i want to test the asterisk with analog phone , i have observed a phone line in on my laptop beside the ethernet jack can i use that port to connect analog phone, so that if a user from softphone dials an extension it connect to analog phone.

please update me if my approach makes sense.

Won’t work. Phones are driven by FXS interfaces. That port in your laptop doesn’t provide that.

You are better off purchasing a ATA device such as the Linksys-Cisco 3102.

Analog Phone --> ATA --> Network

Configure your ATA to SIP register to Asterisk the same way that your softphones running on your laptop do.
