Asterisk SMS Gateway

Good Day All,

I have the need to send SMS using asterisk. I am trying to hash out what the solution would look like. So far as I understand it I would need a 3rd party SMS gateway connected to the server that would connect (for a fee from a service provider) to the various cell networks. Am I right? Any suggestions on equipment / service providers?

P.S. This is a pure IP system no DAHDI interfaces, hence the need for an SMS gateway device. (I think :wink:

Hello. I have just signed up with Clickatell http://www.clickatell.com and use their gateway to send an SMS via an AGI script to send alerts about voicemail. So far, so good!

We use a sms service, the sms’s are sent direct from the dialplan with a custom app ass below
