en i’m searching for Asterisk for the follow requirements:
- 550 Mhz
- 256 MB Memory
- Intel Pentium III
And i wanna know if it is required to use telephones, is the a posibility to use any software or freeware on Windows XP to use the system from Asterisk.
I hope that i say this al good, because im verry bad in my English language.
I just set a test server up on a PII 300 and it works OK for what I am throwing at it.
You can rock and roll with just the old PC and a NIC.
If you have your choice of old PC’s to choose from, pick one with USB as ztdummy can use that as a timing source.
You can use free soft phones on PC’s. xlite is very popular
You can use SIP IP telephones, prices range from under $40 to > $300
You can use analog phones with an FXS card in the PC
You can use analog phones with an external FXS gateway
For incoming connectivity…
You can use an IP based provider (SIP or IAX)
You can use T1/E1’s with a card in the PC
You can use POTS lines with a FXO card in the PC
You can use POTS lines with an external FXO gateway.
So, on the cheep to start out… Find an IP based provider, sign up with them. That will give your server connectivity to the telephone network, then use free soft phones on your PC’s.
