i am new in asterisk , i am reading asterisk’s book to know what hardware i need if i want to rum asterisk in my pc.
and what is Asterisk Appliance?
is this hardware asterisk built in?
If your doing pure VOIP you only need a pc with a network card.
If you want analog extensions or analog lines to the PSTN you will also need FXS and\or FXO ports. If you want to connect to a T1\E1\J1 line you need a digital card.
The Asterisk Appliance is a prebuilt computer with Asterisk, the Asterisk GUI, and some FXO and FXS ports all installed and ready to go.
