What happen to unsent voicemail?

We are using Asterisk 11.8.1 realtime.

I’m having a hard time figuring out what happen to voicemail not forwarded to the right email address. I get a notification from the MAILER-DEAMON that the email does not exist but how can I recover the unsent message?

I have looked in our voicemail_messages database,the /var/spool/asterisk/voicemail/default and the /var/spool/postfix directory.

How can we make sure that voicemail messages are not lost when there’s a bad email or a network problem?

I would assume that postfix would keep a copy somewhere…

Keeping a copy of rejected mail would waste large amounts of disk space. There may also be legal considerations, e.g. in Europe, there is a duty to keep such information for the minimum time necessary.

Sometimes the undelivered item will be include in the bounce message, but I would expect that voicemail files would be considered too large for that.

I am in Canada. I don’t know much about legislation but it’s hard to believe that important voicemail messages can be lost. We must find a way to recover them.

I have no wave or whatsoever in the bounce message.
