Asterisk 1.6.2.16.1, running on CentOS Linux 5.5. My users are reporting an intermittent issue with voicemail – indicator flashing, system indicates one new message, but it won’t play and can’t be deleted. Also difficulty forwarding voicemail between extensions. When I look at the VM directory listing, I usually see a set of voicemail message files that are owned by root instead of by asterisk. I suspect that’s the problem, but I don’t know where to look to fix it. When I delete the root-owned files manually and reset the extension, the problem is temporarily solved for that user. I think something is running as root when it shouldn’t be; any pointers appreciated, thanks.
The easiest way to fix it is to run Asterisk as root. Support for running non-root is a little flakey, and I believe most people run it as root.
Thanks very much, will try that.
