Hello I am using asterisk@home so far everything is working ok but when you try to leave a voicemessage I get.
“the person at extention”
and that is it, I just get cut off!. am i missing something? Please let me know.

is this an example of the incorrect permissions on the audio files ? give your asterisk user/group recursive ownership to the /var/lib/asterisk/sounds directory and that will probably solve it.
how exactly would i do that? i gave that directory 777 access and it still does not work.
try chmod 755 /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/digits
