I need to set up a video conference (1 to many), in which I will have to show the desktop and speak to a class of students.
In the past I have used Asterisk as a simple PBX, but I wonder if it is now possible to use Asterisknow/FreePBX for video conferencing.

See app_confbridge in Asterisk 10 and Asterisk 11. I think Jitsi does desktop sharing by just piping it over H.264.
