Using asterisk to bridge icecast and a teleconference

Hello,

I’m a complete asterisk noob and haven’t so much as installed it at this point. I’m currently just trying to figure out whether or not it could be used to solve a particular problem I’m having. I would like to give people the option of dialling into a teleconference to hear meetings that are currently being streamed via icecast. Asterisk would not need to host the teleconference, just read the icecast stream in and then dial out to the teleconference using voip.

Is asterisk appropriate for this? Is it overkill? Any other (Linux-based) tools I should look at? If asterisk is appropriate for this, some suggestions as to where I should start reading in the docs once I’ve gotten it installed would be great.

Thanks!
