Upgrade to asteisk-1.4.12

How will i upgrade from asterisk-1.4.11 to asterisk-1.4.12 without making change to my existing files. Is asterisk-1.4.12 a stable version, as i can see in the forum someone saying there was a crash in channel.c after upgrading.+
