Serting up my first Asterisk Dial-up server

I am trying to do Dial-up ISP server for my retro Pcs with Linksys PAP2T and Creative modem blaster maybe 56K v.92 and i just installed Asterisk on my Kubuntu laptop and try to edit sip.conf but i get error: Access denied to etc/asterisk/sip.conf, when i check the properties and permissions but it says: Only the owner can change permissions
and under ownership the user is asterisk and group is also asterisk but I CAN’T SEE SUCH USER IN THE FUCKING LOG SCREEN AND I TRY MAKING USER NAMED ASTERISK IT SAYS: NAME ALREADY IN USE PLEASE HELP FAST I JUST WANT MY DIAL-UP SERVER DONE IS THIS TOO MUCH ASKED JESUS

…Asterisk does not provide a dialup server.

I Just follow what this guide does and it tells me to do this

That’s for setting up a voice network. There’s a separate section, not involving Asterisk, for dial-up.

Ah Jesus christ fuck this i have tried doig my own server for 1 month i am trying to do now anything to get one working and i can’t take this i just click anything that pops up

I guess if you connected the ATA to the modem… then it would flow through Asterisk…

Anyway, this uses a Linux distribution package. Where it puts things, the permissions, etc, are up to it. Someone else may have experience with it.

Do you know how to do this because first thing i need this to use my Ms-Dos and to register my Windows 98 services and it’s fun to have a old telephone and i want to test browsing with this

I have no experience in this.

Ok

Conceptually, the PAP2T is a SIP to analog phone adapter. If you can log into it and set up the SIP credentials than should be capable of communicating with your asterisk install. You will also need a SIP connection to the outside world so you can connect the calls between the outside world and your analog phone, something like Flowroute, Twilio or Ipcomms. You can likely edit the files if you use su when starting your editor. I’ve never used a PAP2T and I’ve not had an analog phone in my house for probably 12 years so not much help there.
