I have taken over an Asterisk test server and would like to either return all .conf files to their original state or reinstall asterisk. Can some body pease give me the procedure.

There is no original state… Make sample will give you a set of sample file s, But dont expect a working system.
Best look at what you have got and learn what and why is configured.
