I have Asterisk 1.4.4 running and trying some initial features. I don’t seem to have all the needed sounds e.g., “press-1”, “press-2”, “you-entered”. Do I need to download additional sound files or is there something wrong. I looked in /var/lib/asterisk/sounds and there are many files but not these that I need.

I found the sounds. They are located at ftp.digium.com/pub/telephony/sounds/
Download the “extra-sounds”, there is a separate zipped file for alaw, ulaw, etc. Copy the file to /var/lib/asterisk/sounds and unzip the tarball. Then remove the original file. Lots of new sounds to use, something for anything you can think of.
