I have been looking at the list of downloads and there are quite a few to choose form. Is there somewhere that I can read an explaination of the way to pick a sound file that will work well on the systme I am installing or is there a simple explaination of how to choose. I am installing Asterisk 1.4.

There are a few sets of sound files:

  1. Core files
  2. Extra files that you may not meed but you may one day use
  3. Files in different formats (e.g. ulaw, G729 etc.). It may help to have the different formats so that you asterisk box does not have to do transcoding and put a load on the servers CPU.
  4. Same as #3 and #1 but in other languages. Not sure if they have the same for #2.

I found the 1.4 Tar Sound file for the Asterisk 1.4 release in one of the folders I decomprissed from the Asterisk 1.4 Tar fiel.
