Just got my shiny new copy and I recommend it. Created by the folks behind the Asterisk Documentation Project.
Until I saw this book, I honestly thought that Asterisk was merely a cool toy. However, when an open source project gets an O’Reilly book you know that it’s for real!
After reading chapters 1 to 3 and also chapter 11, I must say that I’m downright giddy about what Asterisk can do for me. This book is excellent thus far and I’m sure that I will have it read cover-to-cover in less than a week. (Hey, I have to spend at least some of that time tinkering with my Asterisk lab, not to mention spending time with my wife, my daughter, working…)
Again, I can say with confidence that this was $40 well spent. Then again, I put it on my company’s credit card…

So I got this book to get my feet wet with Asterisk. (2nd Edition) I must say it is a rather remarkable set of documentation and I recommend it highly to anyone that wants to learn about this technology. I should however point out a large oops located on page 78…
You see the author has you put signaling=fxs_ks when instructing you how to configure zapata.conf for an FXO channel… It took me two days to find the missing “l”!
The author doesn’t make the same mistake on page 80 when explaining how to setup an FXS channel.
To me signaling is the correct spelling… I guess signalling is correct to but more popular in the UK? Firefox is yelling at me right now that signalling is wrong but it certainly isn’t as far as Asterisk is concerned! In either case it was a very frustrating two days trying to get my Wildcard to answer a call…
I have submitted the errata to O’Reilly on thier website. I hope someone else reads this post before they go through what I did.
hello world!
I am working with in a Avaya business partner here in the Philippines as a voice and implementation engineer. I heard about this open source pabx which grabbed my attention.
I did a few searches on the net until i got this copy of asterisk the future of telephony. I got interested and I am actually reading it now.
I am relatively new to Avaya but had a number of experiences on installation and configurations on the pabx. I am really interested on asterisk and hoping to get my hands on this soon.
are there anyone on this forum from the philippines which might help me jump start my asterisk venture…hehehe
nice job on the documentation guys!! more power

The new Asterisk book, Asterisk: The Definitive Guide (3rd Edition) is now available for review from asteriskdocs.org for more information.
Since some spammer spammed this thread, and I had to delete it, I’ll go ahead and plug the fact that the 4th edition, covering Asterisk 11, is now available.
