MOS (Mean Objective Score) Logging

I found a very old thread from 2008 regarding logging call quality1, but the info is dated and the only solution marked “good” (VQManager from Zoho) is no longer offered.

We are using Asterisk v18.6.0 under FreePBX v15.0.37.5 with about 300 active endpoints.

I’d like to be able to log MOS (or at least packet jitter/delay/loss) across all calls so that we can add call quality to our dashboard and flag when certain locations are experiencing poor call quality.

That old thread did mention a product named PBXMate from SoliCall. I’ve requested information for that product from SoliCall, but they don’t look like a very reliable vendor so I’m hoping there are more current and more active solutions out there.

Is anyone actively monitoring call quality across their endpoints? What do you use/recommend?

The O stands for “Opinion”, so it is subjective, not objective, if done properly. (I know there are now algorithms that attempt to calculate it from objective measurements, like choice of codec, and packet loss rates.)

It is not something that is transmitted over RTCP, so you have to make assumptions about the path to the far end to even calculate an estimate for the far end.

Recent versions have a score called MES: Asterisk MES Implementation - Asterisk Documentation

Great ! Glad to read about this new score.
