Log Size Questions

Log file name: /opt/var/log/asterisk/cdr-csv/master.csv
Log file size: 784,182,592 bytes
Disk size: 1GB:
Disk utilization:100%

Symptoms:

  • Asterisk will stop running. Not sure if this is caused by immense log size filling up the 1GB disk?

Observations:

  • Attempts to WinSCP file fail at 60%: thus unable to view log. What can be done to download the log?
  • I could delete the log file and recreate and empty file >> touch master.csv. Will this create new problems?

There isn’t a master.csv. Master.csv will be recreated the first time it is written to after it is removed or renamed.

As the file is less than 2GB, I would suggest any problem you are having in downloading it is on the Windows side.

Normally you would use something like logrotate to periodically rename this file, or you could simply turn off CDRs.

@david55: as usual, concise and helpful: Thank you.

Not sure I understand this or the intent of how to use this. Please clarify.

Very helpful. Thank you. I plan to zorch the file because it is so large.

Even more helpful. I used a linux box to SCP it to a SAMBA share for examination as to why it became so large.
