Is Asterisk appropriate for my purposes II?

  1. User calls in and prompted to type PIN
  2. User responds to a set of questions were he can:
  • type phone keys to answer some questions (press 1 for Yes or 0 for No)
  • respond with voice which is recorded (please describe your problem)
  • user can listen his/her recorded answer and rerecord it (delete old and create a new one) if necessary.
  • system than forwards PIN, key pad and voice answers to database (external to Asterisk).

I am pretty knowledgeable with Unix systems but have no previous experience with Asterisk.

Could you please tell if such system can be build with Asterisk and if yes if I can build and test it at home PC assuming that incoming phone line carries ADSL and phone service.
Basically I have:
phone line IN --> Splitter
Splitter --> router
Splitter --> phone
router --> PC1
router --> PC2(Asterisk)

Thank you

Yes, you can do it with Asterisk and test it at home; I would not use an external pstn line for the test (at least initially) but just a softphone in the other pc.

Cheers.

Hi Marco,

Thank you for a reply.

Idea with softphone will save some money for sure.

Excuse my incompetence.

  1. Do I need any special hardware if using softphone assuming both PC’s can see each other on network?
  2. What software will be the best as a client on Win to call to Asterisk?
  3. I guess I will use IP address in this case rather than phone number to make a call?
  1. No.
  2. counterpath.com/xlite-overview.html .
  3. No, register the phone within Asterisk (Asterisk acts as a sip registrar/proxy, sip.conf), setup Asterisk’s dialplan (extensions.conf) and you can use phone numbers (internal phone numbers).

Cheers.

Thank you again. Wish you a happy and prosperous New Year!
I will write all my steps and publish them here once completed.
