What is the difference between installing asterisk by downloading it and then configure and install
or
by using simply the following command “aptitude install asterisk asterisk-config asterisk-prompt-fr-proformatique”? (when I used this command, I got the 1.8.10.1 asterisk version)
When you download and compile it yourself you can add the configuration options (like imap-support)
When you download binaries with apt-get you get a pre-build version. This goes faster but you have less options.
When you don’t have this basic knowledge of Linux, i think that Asterisk will be too dificult for you…
