This is an exact duplicate of a posting in Asterisk Support, to which I replied pointing out that the choice of codecs depends on many factors, so a best choice cannot be given based on the question, and that, to the best of my knowledge there are no open source implementations of G.729 with a valid licence, so, if G.729 turns out to be the best choice of code, one would be best use the one provided by Digium.
