How to prioritze phone with computer after it?

Hello,

we currently have a managed switch with vlans.
We created a default vlan for computers, and a voip vlan for phones.
Above the managed switch we have a Cisco 1720 T1 router. It just goes into the managed switch, then we use a static ip from sprint on the router (OpenBSD) for the computers on the default vlan, and a static ip from sprint on the router(teleworker) for the phones on the voip vlan.

ANYWAYS, now they are wanting to put computers after phones.
Im not sure how the prioritization would work if they are running the information on the same line. An Ip Phone i was looking at had layer 2 VLANs, so maybe i program in the phone the voip vlan, and default vlan? But the phone would have to be compatible with our HP Managed switch i would think…

any knowledge on this?

you need to do 2 things-

  1. on your switches, prioritize the voip vlan. This will give it priority for internal switching capacity and uplinks.

  2. set up some kind of qos control on your wan link. this is a function of your router. Either prioritize packets going to/from the IP range of the voip vlan or do it based on ports…

  1. hmm…i hope that is done im not sure. Ill have to look into that, anyone know how to do that on an hp procuve 2626?
  2. done
