How to make asterisk support codec g723 & g729?

My asterisk system can only support GSM and g711 codec. How can i make it support g723 & g729 codec?

You have to purchase support for the g.729 codec:

digium.com/en/products/voice/g729codec.php

but how to support g723, are there some free software?

Look here…
voip-info.org/wiki/view/ITU+G.723.1

G.723.1 is an ITU standard codec.

Its reasonably low bit rate (6.3Kbps or 5.3Kbps) and used in the H.323 standard
Use of this codec in a product requires lisencing by Sipro Lab Telecom

Asterisk server supports it in pass-thru mode.

my Zap channel still can not support g723 codec. Who can help me?

What I can say is:
You can check at readytechnology.co.uk and you will find an implementation of G723, I used and works great but now, with the 1.2.9.1 it is not working, I downgraded to 1.2.8 and works again.
I do not where the issue is, but not worls in 1.2.9.1
I don’t know if some other person had tis issue and I don’t know if is possible to fix.
Any help?

ok, i have obtain a license key file from intel.com/software/products/ipp/ and install ipp library.
my system can support g723 & g729 now. But i want to know if the license key file have date line. if any, how long is the time period?

Cheng,
Are you using Asterisk 1.2.9.1?
I can not running G723 in my system with Asterisk 1.2.9.1
Do you?

Thanks

No, I run in 1.0.9 version

i’d be careful about the licence implications. if you’re using this for a commercial setup then you will probably find you are not licenced using that link/code. read voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+G.729+Licensing

trixter was setting up a less expensive G729 licencing model, but i’m not sure what happened to it. the last time i needed to buy G729 licences it still wasn’t up and running, but the costs were < 1/3 of the Digium prices.

Thanks for the info.
Just to clarify, I’m not using any codec for commercial reason.
I was trying to find the trixter web page, but I think I fail.

Anyway I’ve already had G729 from Digium I just want to check the G723

If you have info about it, I’ll appreciate.

Thanks

Sure thing, dude. I am right on the same problem here… Looks like the Asterisk 1.2.9.1 Crashes when the call its about to be established…

I tested it with g.729 and worked fine, but the g723, no.

Let me know if you find a workaround!!

You can have a try on G.729/G.723.1 codec from www.imtelephone.com . It is totally free for evaluation version and it is very easy to use.
