How to fix Unable asterisk.ctl?

hello, some ideas how can I fix the following problem

root@mail:~# asterisk -r
Unable to connect to remote asterisk (does /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.ctl exist?)

asterisk -rvvvvc
Unable to connect to remote asterisk (does /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.ctl exist?)

Start the Asterisk daemon.

Also note that -r and -c are mutually incompatible.

If it still doesn’t work once the daemon (or Asterisk in -c mode) is running, you will need to check permissions and ownerhsips.
