[Help] - Newbie question - Can' get Xlite to register

I know this has to be a total newbie error/problem,
But I have worked on it for hours, read the book, and checked the FAQs.

I have 1 Box running Fedora 5

On that box IP 192.168.1.1 Asterisk is running

Also on that box I have a Xlite soft phone that I tryng to get to work for the first time. I am trying to use the example from the Asterisk book verbatim except no DNS lookups

----------------------- sip. conf ---------------------
[general]
context=default
bindport=5060

[john]
type=friend
secret=welcome
nat=no
host=dynamic
canreinvite=no
context=internal
;I have tried setting host to 192.168.1.1 and get the same error

------------------------extensions.conf -----------------
[internal]
exten => 100,1,Dial(SIP,john)
exten => 611,1,Echo()

---------------------------Error Message in Messages File -------

Sep 15 00:45:46 NOTICE[3210] chan_sip.c: Registration from ‘john sip:john@192.168.1.1’ failed for ‘192.168.1.1’ - Username/auth name mismatch

I have tried every combination of username and authorization user that I can thinkof, including just john, john@192.168.1.1, on one, on both etc etc. ad naseum
when configuring the x-lite phone. Always the same error

Any idea of what I am doing wrong would be very much appreciatted.

THX in Advance

try adding authuser=john?

Will try and reportback.

I didn’t see this in the example in the Asterisk book or the example sip.conf file.

Is this usually needed each user added in to the sip.conf file or is thier something wrong/strange/different in the setup I am using ??

Thx

I am still having the same problem .
ANy assistance would be very very much appreciatted.

I know this is real newbie problem but I have spent forever on it and could use just a small bit of help over this bump

I have made the following changes in the sip.conf notted below in bold with no change isn the problem.

On the X-lite phone I am now enetering

Display Name : Linux Test Phone

User Nmae: john

Authorization User: john

Password:welcome

Domain/Realm: 192.168.1.1

SIP Proxy: 192.168.1.1:5060
