Hardware needs

Hello guys,

Currently we have PBX system build with CentOS 5.8 and Asterisk 1.8 on HP ProLiant DL380 G7 server. It has two Intel Xeon E5649’s (2.53GHz, 6-core with Hyper Treading), 8 Gigs of RAM and two 10000 RPM 300 GB hard disk drives in RAID 1. Phone network also includes around 150 phones. All calls are being recorded. I spot PBX peaking at 73 concurrent calls without a problem.

So the business is growing and I have a question. What hardware requirements would be to the system in two cases: 300 phones and 150 concurrent (recorded) calls; 600 phones and 250 concurrent (recorded) calls.

Thanks for any advise.

Regards, Volodymyr.

Hello Volodymyr!
It depends on the codec(s) used, could you specify?

Hello,

So we are using G.711 codec for all calls.

Thanks!

if you’re not transcoding calls, you need to see what’s causing the peak. I could get away with over 150 phones and 200 calls on a dual core 3.2Ghz / 8GB Ram / 78Gig 72000RPM (Raid0) Dell Poweredge server. Record to ramdisk and then move to onboard drives - might help with your load
