another possible idea to deal with spam- encourage all forum members to click on spam links. ask everybody to click ont he links, load the images a few times, surf around, and fill out the order forms with bullshit data ie,
Mr voip-info.org hates you,
stop spamming us blvd
nowhere, FU 12345
if their databases start becoming less useful we may get them to back off…
or the increased traffic might make them do it more who knows
The orange on white is a bit… bright? Its loud but it works.
My one suggestion is to change the page template so the forum isn’t a fixed width. I have a good 3-4 inches on the sides of the forum that aren’t being used and that’s on a 1024x768 screen minus scroll bars. That makes it a bit harder to read.
Hopefully the new forum includes new anti-spam remedies…
i think business1 is yet another spammer, and his sig is the spam.
lets hope the spam blockers angler speaks of arrive soon…
We changed the way we register for the forums, hopefully that will slow down the spammers for now. However, there is not much we can do if a real person is just browsing a posting from their webbrowser. We can stop the bots at least.
can i ask someone with admin rights to investigate the post counts too please ? there are growing numbers of people with the 16 million plus posts attributed to them, i hope it’s not an indication of db corruption.
i’ve just got my account inactivity email too !!! a good step towards voiding/deleting the 75% of accounts that have never posted (or have had their posts removed) and probably never will.
not terribly keen on the orange layout though … and this from someone who painted his lounge orange and is/was a regular on the SmoothWall forums !!
'nother question. is the absence of the “website” field in the user profile a deliberate move ? if so, are you going to remove/null all the current entries ?
i can log on to this forum at work today, but at home right now its still giving me the ‘construction’ sign.
not sure what is up with that, even if i try to do forums.digium.com/faq.php it just goes to a bad page, which leaves me to believe its not cache on my computer…maybe its a cache server between me and the digium server somewhere
hmm
