Downgrade from Asterisk 1.4.4 to Asterisk 1.2.24?

Hi Everyone,

I have a machine installed with FreePBX-2.2.1 and Asterisk 1.4.4. Because of server load issues using Asterisk 1.4 and Vicidial, I like to downgrade to Asterisk 1.2; but, I have a couple of questions before I do so.

  1. Does downgrading from Asterisk 1.4 to 1.2 cause any conflict with the way FreePBX 2.2 work?

  2. Does Asterisk 1.2.24 include asterisk-addons already or do I have to download/install them separately?

  3. What’s the best way and command to carry out this task?

In advance, thanks for all your help.

You will have issues since there are differences between 1.2.X and 1.4.x. The best way to do this would be to install asterisk “manually”. You will need to install the asterisk add-ons separately after you install asterisk its self. After you do that you can install FreePBX on top of it.

FreePBX 2.3 will do both 1.2 and 1.4 - you might try just upgrading FreePBX first to see if any changes in it will help. FreePBX 2.2 doesn’t work well on 1.4

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your help. I tried a new installation and I was successfully at it; However, Asterisk wouldn’t start after finished installation.

So, I desisted. I’m gonna perform a scratch installation of everything.

I will keep in touch. Once again, Thanks

What happens when you try to start asterisk ? Any error ? What happens when you run asterisk -vvvvvvvvvv ?

Hi Dovid,

I already scratch installed the whole system. That downgrade wasn’t like a regular downgrade, because I was using a distribution from Admins Paradise.

So, what I want to do is resemble Admins Paradise installation, but using Slackware and Asterisk 1.2 version.

I will post my progress.

Dovid, thanks for your support.

Please post your results. It helps a lot of other people that come to the forum with questions. I personally get help for all different kinds of questions by googling different forums.
