Cisco 7940 SIP issue

Hello all,

This isn’t strictly an Asterisk issue but I figured the expertise to help me would be around here somewhere.

I’'ve just configured my first asterisk setup to use an analogue phone connected directly to a digium card. I’m now trying to roll out my Cisco 7940 phones onto my network.

I have a DHCP server up and running as well as a TFTP server.

When I reboot the phone, it successfully obtains an IP address but then hangs with a ‘Defaulting CM to TFTP Server’ message.

The logs show -

I am not sure why SEP is being asked for. I thought it would be asking for the SIP file at this stage. Do I misunderstand? Why is is trying for an xml file?

My /tftpboot folder contains -
[ul]
-rwxrwxrwx 1 nobody root 13 2008-04-17 20:46 OS79XX.TXT
-rwxrwxrwx 1 nobody root 129240 2006-03-02 11:53 P003-08-2-00.bin
-rwxrwxrwx 1 nobody root 129644 2006-03-02 12:10 P003-08-2-00.sbn
-rwxrwxrwx 1 nobody root 461 2006-03-02 12:11 P0S3-08-2-00.loads
-rwxrwxrwx 1 nobody root 785338 2006-03-02 12:11 P0S3-08-2-00.sb2
-rwxrwxrwx 1 nobody root 294 2008-04-17 17:18 SIP000AB779F377.cnf
-rwxrwxrwx 1 nobody root 55 2008-04-17 17:29 SIPDefault.cnf
[/ul]

The SIPDefault file contains

[ul]
image_version: P0S3-08-2-00
proxy1_address: 192.5.5.82
[/ul]

I am at a loss. Can anyone give me any (gentle!) pointers.

Thanks,
wanderer

what does the OS79xx.txt file say?

does this point to your 79xx SIP firmware?

by the sounds of it, the phone is still running the Skinny firmware and there fore looking for the SEP file rather that the SIP.cnf.xml

I can help as we have about 40 7940s in a number of locations with Asterisk.

What firmware is on the phone CM or SIP and what version?
