I am new to voip and am not sure what application it can be used for, but I am looking to set up a 2 way intercom system over a network. Where each user has a choice of a push to talk button or an open line of communication. Can this be done using Asterisk? or does anyone know if there is a better way to do this?

The best advice i can tell you is Install asterisk and make a conference room.
the configuration of conferences rooms are in /etc/asterisk/meetme.conf
