Once I finish configuring all the *.conf files (zaptel, etc.), develop dial plans, and restart asterisk, when are we suppose to receive dial tone?
I am new at this and very excited to see asterisk work.

we have no idea what hardware you have, so it’s a bit difficult to say. SIP or IAX dvices will generate their own dialtone, analogue devices will get dialtone from the FXS port … asterisk may not even be involved yet !!
tell us what devices and cards you’re using first.
