Asterisk voicemail cutomization

I am trying to use asterisk to replace my aging voicemail system. It is an old Repartee system that has a unique interface. It is a series of “1 for Yes, 2 for No” options, and my users are very comfortable with it. I would like to be able to customize the asterisk voicemail interface to the point that I could mimick this simple menu system.

Is there a way to customize the voicemail menu via a config file, or am I looking at making code changes? Are there any alternatives to the current voicemail in asterisk, like a different module?

I think that would be some coding required to do that. I have not seen any configuration abilities that allows you to modify Comedian mail. I could very well be wrong, but have not seen anything.
