Asterisk Service not working properly

Dears,

Kindly note that I have installed STABLE SNG7-PBX-64bit-1805-2 (Asterisk 15 and freePBX 14) on two machines, and i’m having issues when testing calls using two testing cisco 7942 and 7941 IP Phones. when calling a not configured extension (wrong number) the IP phones freeze and had to restart asterisk service to make it working again, sometimes asterisk services are failing to restart until reboot.

using the command “systemctl status asterisk -l” below output is shown and I believe there is something wrong and wanted your help.

What does Asterisk’s own log show. What happens if you start Asterisk manually with -c.

@david551 sorry I cannot upload attachments to show you the logs, but I’m getting many errors and warnings when running Asterisk -c but I had asterisk ready at the end.

but my question is why I’m seeing below in service status, any idea?

The first is either a permissions error or that asterisk hasn’t started, or has stopped very quickly.

The second is because asterisk hasn’t started or has stopped very quickly.

I assume “has stopped very quickly”, which is why I asked for the Asterisk logs.

There are no fatal errors, which tends to suggest a permissions problem, although you should fix the non-fatal errors and you should edit out warnings due to the way that FreePBX works when posting logs, as it makes it dfficult to see the wood for the trees.

@david551 I have already shared the permissions configured, asterisks has read write permissions to /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.pid , when restarting asterisk using "systemctl restart asterisk " who should has permissions root or asterisk ??

Also after reboot asterisk doesn’t start automatically. any idea?

I haven’t run Asterisk other than as root, so I don’t know when it changes user in relation to access to files and directories.

Also SELINUX can cause permission problems, even when users match.

The permission problem may not actually be one related to accessing /var, /var/run, /var/run/asterisk or /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.pid.

asterisk starts and working fine but with errors as seen in the shared logs.

but sometimes calls are not going through (phones hanged , and no debug info in asterisk cli) then I have to restart the service again, to make calls go through

systemd seems to have no idea about the asterisk PID and maybe that’s why it is not stating on boot.

I have logs but I’m not able to attach here. which log file you need exactly.

Asterisk creates the PID file when it successfully starts. The Asterisk init script is saying that the file has not been created, (or otherwise cannot be opened).
