I’m new to Asterisk and I was wondering what the difference is between Asterisk 1.8 and 10.x?
I’ve been using 10.x so far and performed some load tests using sipp. So far I’ve reached 300+ calls per second. So I’m also wondering if 1.8 has the same performance.
What about stability between 1.8 and 10.x? We need to be able to handle high loads and Asterisk needs to be as stable as possible.

10 will perform better wrt calls/second. 10 is a Standard release, so it lapses in December of this year.
1.8 is the older release, but it’s a Long Term release, so it maintains bugfix support for another few years.
The next release, 11, expected this fall, is another Long Term release. It’ll have the performance improvements that 10 has, and it’ll be around for many years.
