VPN 64 kbps? for VOIP

I am using VPN with 64 kbps, but not pure i mean we use for IRC about 6 client in our branch, and using codec g723, but there is time delay … (the quality is very bad). I try using GSM but is same.
as far as i know g723 the bandwidht consumption is about 6.3 kbps. We are using ATA and asterisk as SIP server.
Maybe someone can give me advise? is it codec problems? or others, any idea …

Thanks.
Andre.

There are many factors, not least the bandwidth available. Have a look here for a more detailed analysis on usage:

I highly doubt you will ever get good quality over a shared 64K VPN connection though.

thanks, yes im already read that site, and try to calculate the bandwidth consumtion.
I try to ping my router, the resond time is +/- 4000ms, it’s make me confused, when i plug off my ata I ping my routers avarege respon is 130ms.
and Interestly, when i use a x-lite (both) software the sound is in good quality. :frowning:
is there anydifferent between x-lite and ATA bandwidth consumtion, when using same codec?

Thanks.
Andre

Sounds like you have a real ATA problem there, as 4000ms is astronomical. What ATA are you using? Is it on the latest firmware?

I am using Grandstream HT 488. I change with other ATA, it;s just work fine. The respond time is 130ms. But I am not sure with my first ATA… Maybe just miss configure, or maybe our provider has a problem. Coz I try to traceroute there is a big delay in provider router, in third hop.
Now I can make a good quality voice, using g723, 6.3kbps,and my tos=0x18.

Thank You.
