Good thread and great info… thanks guys!

Anyone have an reccomendations for Receptionist phones?

For the iax2 phones, dont forget idefisk!

asteriskguru.com/tools/idefisk_beta.php

The new version of idefisk is an awesome softphone and recommend it highly.

I use Cisco 7940’s because the sound quality and the xml interface is great.

I turned down the GXP-2000 because of problems with losing registration when a vonage router was on the network and the speaker phone is still not very good at all even with the latest firmware and the phone IMHO feels cheap. Call parking was hit or miss as well.

If you are going to get a Polycom then I would suggest the 500 series rather than the 300.

Can anyone recommend a good handset to use with a softphone like Xlite? Where can we find a good selection of such handsets?

Our scenario is that almost all of our users have a dedicated computer, so it makes great sense to just use a softphone with a good handset or headset. Unfortunately, many of our people prefer the handset, and I’m having a hard time getting a recommendation!

Thanks in advance.

Snom phones (linux inside) are good phones with quite good prices.

Great functionality, but they look ugly.

Thanks,
Mike

Been using a sipura 841 for a while now and agree that the screen is a bit of a problem, but I also have a wood shop so made a wedge to get the phone elevated a bit. The web interface is great and can be configured easily. As far as SIP goes, so long as the phone is on the same subnet as the * box, SIP is not a problem since it’s not going to have the router/firewall problems. I use idefisk for a softphone on the road (darn NAT). As a Mac guy, it has a lousy UI, but works well as an IAX client.

BEST SOFT PHONE = IDEFISK

BEST HARD PHONE = PLANET 103

Could you provide the PLANET 103 web site link?

look at planet.com.tw
(sorry for the delay)
I recently installed Asterisk in the company I work for and we are in the stage of looking for a few good phones that are compatible with Asterisk. Please advice in which ones are the best phones and the most compatible.
I was told that Cisco and GrandStream phones. What do you recommend?

Thank you
Ive tried many brands from the cheat grandstream to the expensive cisco, the only one that i really liked were the Polycom and the linksys. We purchased 6 GXP2000’s for a call center and although they were cheap they were horrible and eventually the exchangd them for polycom 301’s which were only 30 bucks more, i dunno, i wouldnt buy one if i were you.
